SoundScout Ltd (“SoundScout”, “we”, “us” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect your personal information when you use SoundScout, including our website, accounts, music discovery features, listener profiles, artist upload tools, payments, analytics and related services.

1. Who we are

SoundScout is a music discovery platform where listeners can discover short music previews and react using simple signals such as Skip, Good and Hot. Artists can upload previews to understand how listeners respond before release.

2. Information we collect

We may collect the following types of information.

Account information:

  • Name
  • Display name or username
  • Email address
  • Password authentication information
  • Account type, such as listener or artist
  • Profile image, bio or other profile details you choose to add

Listener activity:

  • Genres selected during onboarding
  • Excluded genres
  • Tracks shown to you
  • Reactions, such as Skip, Good and Hot
  • Tags, comments or other feedback you choose to submit
  • Tracks you interact with
  • Taste, identity or discovery signals generated from your activity

Public profile information:

  • Your username or display name
  • Your profile image, if added
  • Your public profile content
  • Public activity or identity features made available within SoundScout
  • Comments, tags or reactions where the product clearly shows they may be visible to artists or other users

Artist and upload information:

  • Artist name
  • Track title
  • Audio previews uploaded to SoundScout
  • Cover artwork or image uploads
  • Genre, mood or descriptive track details
  • Upload timestamps and processing status
  • Listener reactions, comments, tags and performance data connected to your previews

Payment information:

  • Subscription plan
  • Billing status
  • Payment history metadata
  • Stripe customer ID or subscription ID
  • Billing email
  • Limited payment-related information provided by Stripe

We use Stripe to process payments. We do not store full card numbers on our own systems.

Analytics and technical information:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Device information

  • Pages visited
  • Referring pages
  • Date and time of visits
  • Feature usage
  • Google Analytics data
  • Vercel Analytics data
  • Log data, security events and error reports

3. How we use your information

  • Show listeners relevant music previews
  • Prevent showing the same track repeatedly where applicable
  • Record listener reactions such as Skip, Good and Hot
  • Display public profile information where relevant
  • Allow artists to see reactions, comments, tags and other feedback on their uploaded previews
  • Help artists understand how their previews are performing
  • Process uploaded tracks and images
  • Moderate content and prevent misuse
  • Process subscriptions and payments through Stripe
  • Send service emails, such as account, security, payment or password reset emails
  • Respond to support requests
  • Understand product usage through Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics
  • Improve SoundScout, user experience, recommendation quality and product performance
  • Detect, prevent and investigate fraud, abuse, copyright issues or security problems
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Lawful bases for using your information

Where UK GDPR or similar privacy laws apply, we rely on one or more lawful bases depending on the context.

Contract: We process account, upload, reaction, payment, and service data where necessary to provide SoundScout to you.

Legitimate interests: We process certain data to improve SoundScout, keep the service secure, prevent abuse, understand usage, support music discovery and provide artist insights, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.

Consent: We rely on consent for optional cookies, analytics cookies, marketing emails or optional features where consent is required. You can withdraw consent at any time.

Legal obligation: We may process information where necessary to comply with applicable laws, tax rules, payment obligations, legal requests or regulatory requirements.

5. Public profiles and visible activity

SoundScout includes public or semi-public profile features.

Depending on the product feature, other users or artists may be able to see information such as your display name, username, profile image, public profile details, comments, tags or other activity that you submit.

Artists may be able to see individual comments, tags and feedback connected to their uploaded previews.

Do not include personal information in your public profile, comments, tags or feedback that you do not want others to see.

6. Uploaded content

If you upload music, artwork, text, comments, tags or other content, we process that content so we can provide the service.

You should only upload content that you own or have the right to use. Do not upload music, artwork, samples, vocals, images or other material that infringes someone else's rights.

7. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information with trusted service providers who help us operate SoundScout, such as:

  • Hosting providers
  • Database and storage providers
  • Authentication providers
  • Email delivery providers
  • Analytics providers, including Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics
  • Payment processors, including Stripe
  • Security, moderation or infrastructure providers

These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services to us.

We may also share information if required to:

  • Comply with law
  • Respond to lawful requests
  • Enforce our Terms of Service
  • Protect users, artists, SoundScout or the public
  • Investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents or copyright claims

8. Payments

Payments and subscriptions are processed through Stripe.

Stripe may collect and process payment details, billing information, fraud prevention information and other data needed to process payments. Your use of Stripe payments may also be subject to Stripe's own terms and privacy policy.

SoundScout stores limited payment-related information, such as your subscription status, customer ID, plan, and payment metadata. We do not store full card numbers.

9. Analytics

SoundScout uses Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics to understand how people use the website and product.

Analytics may help us understand page visits, traffic sources, feature usage, performance and general user behaviour.

Where required, analytics cookies or similar technologies will only be used with your consent. You can manage your cookie choices through our cookie banner or browser settings.

10. Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

For example:

  • Account data is kept while your account is active.
  • Upload data may be kept while your preview is active or stored in your account.
  • Reactions, comments, tags and listener activity may be kept to support discovery, artist insights, safety, analytics and product improvement.
  • Payment records may be kept as needed for accounting, tax, fraud prevention and legal obligations.
  • Support messages may be kept for a reasonable period so we can handle your request.
  • Legal, security and abuse-prevention records may be kept for longer where required.

Some information may need to be retained where required for legal, security, fraud prevention, accounting, dispute resolution or legitimate business reasons.
